Statement from Supervisor Rex Scott
Regarding Incident at Tucson Law Office
TUCSON, AZ – May 8, 2026 - I condemn the dangerous and irresponsible actions of masked protesters who invaded the offices of the Lazarus and Silvyn law firm yesterday. Their behavior was intimidating and threatening. To characterize what they did as civil disobedience would besmirch the proud meaning of the term.
Our community has a long tradition of civic engagement, and I strongly support every resident’s right to peacefully express their views and participate in public conversations about projects that impact our community. Thoughtful public input is an important part of the process and helps shape better outcomes for everyone.
At the same time, disagreements must never cross the line into intimidation or threats. No employee, business owner, or member of the public should feel unsafe in their workplace or community.
I appreciate the quick response of the Tucson Police Department and am grateful that no injuries were reported.
Beale Infrastructure’s investment represents a significant opportunity for Pima County. Projects of this scale have the potential to create quality jobs, expand our tax base, strengthen infrastructure, and position our region for long-term economic growth. I also appreciate Beale’s stated commitment to renewable energy and community partnerships as discussions continue around the project.
Economic development and community values can and should coexist. We can ask tough questions, expect transparency, and engage in meaningful debate while still treating one another with dignity and respect.
Southern Arizona’s future will be shaped not only by the projects we pursue, but by how we treat one another during difficult conversations. I encourage everyone involved to continue engaging through constructive dialogue, public participation, and peaceful advocacy that reflects the values of our community.
