Enrollment begins Feb. 2 for Pima County Summer Youth Employment Program
PIMA COUNTY, Jan. 29, 2026 -- Pima County will open enrollment Feb. 2 for its longstanding and popular Summer Youth Employment Program.
The program is open to teens and young adults ages 14 to 21 who want to gain work experience, develop new skills and advance their education.
The program places youth in paid intern positions in public service offices, parks, libraries, hospitals, nonprofits, and many other workplaces. Interested applicants can apply online.
Program details include:
- Application period: Feb. 2 (7 a.m.) to Feb. 27 (5 p.m.)
- Two program sessions: June 1 to June 26; July 6 to July 31
- Minimum pay: $16.54
“We’re building the next generation of workers through paid jobs and real-life experience,” said Daphanie Conner, the County’s youth program manager for the Department of Community & Workforce Development (CWD). “For many, this is perhaps their first job, and it’s something they will never forget.
“What we find is many participants enjoy earning a paycheck and often return to the Youth Development Employment Center to take advantage of our year-round workforce programs.”
In 2025, more than 600 youth participated in the Summer Youth Employment Program at nearly 200 worksites, including more than 40 Pima County departments. Summer positions last year included:
- Auto technician
- Customer service
- Kitchen staff/prep cook
- Landscaping assistant
- Marketing assistant
- Receptionist
- Sales support
- And more
Conner said SYEP is hoping to expand to about 850 participants this year. The County will also continue a related summer program that helps students earn core credits needed for high school graduation. Up to 200 students can participate in that program this summer, earning as much as one full high school credit and a stipend upon successful completion.
Employers interested in hosting interns can fill out a worksite request form on the SYEP website or call the Youth One-Stop at 520-724-9649. The Youth One-Stop provides a variety of employment services and resources for young people ages 16 to 24.
