Maximus

Don't be fooled by poor "kennel presence"

This is Maximus and his new family on the day he was adopted.

His story is one we’d love to replicate hundreds of times – and with the help of our fosters, adoptions counselors, behavior team and volunteer office, we do.

Maximus first arrived at PACC back in March. His original owners could no longer keep him, and sadly he ended up in a kennel at PACC. His ‘kennel presence’ wasn’t always the greatest – which is a reality we struggle with daily. Animals penned up in a cage do not show their best personality. Who would? And this is likely a factor in why it took roughly 7 months for him to find his forever home.

But Maximus was a regular in play groups and with other dogs outside of the kennel he did great. He also spent time in and out of foster homes and did equally great. But back at PACC and he just didn’t ‘show well’ from inside the kennel.

I saw Maximus while he was out in play group on the day he was adopted. He was romping around with the other dogs, came up and wanted to play when I walked in – and later in the day he was interacting well in the meet/greet with what was to become his new family. You see the result in the picture.

Quick side note – Maximus had been adopted previously and was returned in less than 24 hours. It seems the person who came and got him had not checked on the home front to be sure the other spouse wanted a pet. Please be sure your family is aligned in wanting an animal. It’s a significant decision and we want the home setting to be one where our animals are accepted and loved as family members.

Also shown in the picture is a large goodie bag that was full of items donated by the Girl Scouts for us to send home with people who adopt one of our longer stay dogs. We’re grateful to the Scouts for their role in helping our pups find homes.

Maximus is now with his new family. We’ve got hundreds of similar dogs and cats who are looking for a home. Please come out and remember Maximus’ story when viewing the dogs in kennels – that’s a false environment, not conducive to allowing the animal to show its true personality.

We’re open 7 days per week. Stop out and see who we have to offer as an addition to your home.

With thanks,

Steve Kozachik, PACC Director
