Korean War Memorial

Pima County has not forgotten about what is sometimes called The Forgotten War.

On the sun-drenched morning of Nov. 12, Pima County unveiled the restoration of the vandalized Korean War Memorial, as well as the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at the Veterans Gold Star Family Park.

The County invited veterans to an informal reception at the Kino Veterans Memorial Park, on the corner of E. Ajo Way and S. Forgeus Ave., across from Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium.

County’s trails management team upgrades Steve Anderson Sweetwater Trailhead

Steve Anderson trailhead lot

During peak trail use season, the Steve Anderson Sweetwater Trailhead sees as many as 500 users a day, making it Pima County’s most-visited trailhead. Until recently, however, the trailhead was home to an unmarked parking lot and was also plagued by chronic puddles and potholes, not to mention a narrow entry road.

No longer. Conservation Lands & Resources recently completed a renovation project at the trailhead, intended to address erosion, enhance stormwater management, and improve accessibility for visitors.

Honoring a heroic PACC pup

Dog at PACC

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and at 10 years old, Cooper is a member of Pima Animal Care Center’s Mature Mutts group. This big fluffball might be 109 pounds, but he is very much a gentle giant. Because Cooper is so easily handled and friendly, he recently donated blood to help another ill dog at PACC. Cooper is a Great Pyrenees, and he certainly lives up to his breed’s reputation for having a protective nature.

Happily, Cooper was recently adopted, but there are still many other pups at PACC who are still looking for their forever homes.

Start saving your cooking grease for Jan. 10 collection event

grease campaign brand

Pima County Wastewater Reclamation is gearing up for its annual grease collection drive, and it’s never too early to start saving! If the cooler weather is encouraging you to cook bigger, heartier meals, be sure to set aside any leftover grease and let it cool. Then, put it in an airtight container and bring it to a grease drop-off location near you on Jan. 10, 2026.

Not only does this help keep grease from clogging up your drain, but all of the collected grease will also be recycled into clean-burning biodiesel fuel. You’ll be protecting both your pipes and the planet!
