October baseball bonanza: Kino serves up three big events
Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium is the place to be for baseball in October.
The baseball revival at a revamped Kino Stadium continues with three major events, each offering a unique flavor of the sport and something for every fan.
The month kicks off with the return of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, Oct. 2-5, a festival-style exhibition featuring the University of Arizona and six teams from the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico (LAMP). The Fiesta also marks the unofficial debut of the new Tucson Baseball Team.
Southern Arizona’s longest river is thriving. That’s the takeaway from the 12th annual Living River Report, which provides an in-depth look at the flowing stretches of the Santa Cruz River that wind through Pima County. The report highlights the County’s role in serving as a responsible steward of the river ecosystem.

Last call for public comments on Pima Prospers final draft
Residents still have an opportunity to read and provide comments on the final draft of Pima County’s proposed 10-year comprehensive land use plan, Pima Prospers, before it goes before the Pima County Board of Supervisors next month.
The Board will review and vote on the final version of the Pima Prospers 2025 plan on Oct. 14. Until that time, the public can still review the most recent version of the plan online and submit their comments to COB_mail@pima.gov.

Vaccines available ahead of respiratory illness season
Flipping the calendar to October may mean cooler temperatures, but it also means the start of the respiratory illness season. Pima County Health Department clinics, pharmacies and health care providers have flu vaccines as well as a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

Wastewater's expanded sewer fee subsidy for low-income residents effective Oct. 2
The subsidy that Pima County offers to assist low-income residents with their monthly sewer user fees is set to expand. The expansion, approved by the Board of Supervisors Sept. 2, increases the number of County households that are eligible for the subsidy, allowing the neediest households to qualify for up to an 80% discount on their sewer fees.

Entries for Transportation's anti-graffiti poster contest due Oct. 3
There is still time to submit an entry for Pima County Transportation's annual anti-graffiti poster contest. The contest is open to students ages 9 to 18 that go to school in Pima County and is part of the department's Take Action Against Graffiti program. Winners will receive a free mural of their artwork to display at their school, will have their artwork displayed at the Pima County School Superintendent's Office and on the County's social media pages, and will be publicly recognized at a Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting. All entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
