Pima County courthouse dome Hispanic Heritage month

Pima County is partnering with Visit Tucson on a number of events as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

The month-long festival — ¡Viva Tucson! — celebrates the food, music, art, and traditions of Hispanic culture, all integral to the very DNA of southern Arizona. The celebration is multi-faceted, including activities that range from art exhibits to concerts to a roasted chile festival. To celebrate the month’s activities, Pima County will light the dome of the Historic Courthouse, 115 N. Church Ave., with the colors of the Mexican flag Sept. 15.

Transportation’s anti-graffiti poster contest seeks to spark kids’ creativity

When it comes to painting public art, getting permission makes all the difference.

That’s the message behind Pima County Transportation’s yearly Take Action Against Graffiti (TAAG) poster contest, which encourages young people to express their creative side in a constructive way. The poster contest is open to students ages 9 to 18. During the month of September, schools will hold their own contests and choose two winners from each age group. The public will then be invited to vote for their favorites.

CD7 voters to pick new U.S. representative on Sept. 23

The Special General Election to choose a new representative in U.S. Congressional District 7 will be held Sept. 23. The Pima County Elections Department will open 59 Vote Centers that day. Before you go to the polls, make sure you’re eligible to vote. Here are some key dates to be aware of.

Opportunity awaits at Youth Job Fair

Do you know a teen or young adult looking for a job or career opportunity? Encourage them to attend the free Youth Job Fair, hosted by the Pima County Youth One-Stop Service Center, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at El Pueblo Activity Center. Nearly 40 employers will be onsite, looking to hire people ages 16 to 24 across multiple industries, including retail, landscaping, healthcare, hospitality, and automotive.

Ajo Youth Sports earns honors from statewide parks association

Ajo parks award

Ajo Youth Sports received the Youth Sports Award from the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association at their annual conference in August.

The program serves the community of Ajo, located in the far western region of Pima County. It is the only organized athletic program for youth ages 4 to 14 within a 50-mile radius. The program offers 17 different sports and engages more than 400 youth every year.

Local author Sarah T. Dubb is Library's newest Writer in Residence

Sarah T. Dubb

Local author Sarah T. Dubb kicked off the Pima County Public Library's Fall 2025 Writer in Residence program on Sept. 4. Her residency will run through Nov. 13.

Dubb will be available for eight 30 minute one-on-one sessions per week at Quincie Douglas Library and Woods Memorial Library. She can help participants brainstorm, write story pitches, edit existing work, explore questions about publishing, and more!
