Pima County Wastewater continues to improve odor control at treatment plants

Sometimes, the perfect solution turns out to be right under your nose.

In this case, the problem was an outdated odor control method being used at the Tres Ríos facility, the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department’s largest treatment plant. 

The solution not only saves the County money, but also removes odors more efficiently — and even reduces the plant's carbon footprint.

Pima County offers free diapers for
income-eligible families

If income-eligible families need help with the cost of diapers, Pima County has them covered. The Pima County Community Action Agency can distribute 150 diapers or Pull-Ups per child, per month, as part of a federal pilot program that is scheduled to run through September. Pregnant women are eligible for the program if they are within a month of their due date.

Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center makes employment the mission

Veterans Day

July 25 is National Hire a Veteran Day — a mission that the Pima County Kino Veterans' Workforce Center takes seriously every day of the year.

Opened in 2012, the center offers specialized employment services to veterans and their spouses, connecting them with employers and serving as an on-site hub for assistance from local, state and federal partners.

Baseball fields at northwest County park converting to reclaimed water

Arthur Pack

By the end of February 2026, Pima County’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to convert all 10 of the baseball fields at Arthur Pack Regional Park to reclaimed water.

The playing fields at the northwest side park currently are irrigated with potable (drinking) water. The conversion will help meet goals to conserve water resources laid out in the County’s wide-reaching Climate Action Plan.

Volunteer dog walkers can make a
difference for stressed pups

If you have two hours a week to spare, you could change a shelter dog's life – and maybe your own in the process.

Pima Animal Care Center needs dog walking volunteers to help exercise the hundreds of dogs who are currently at the shelter and waiting for homes. The dog walking program is flexible and includes volunteers ranging from ages 16 to 80-plus.

UA video series: Did you know how
Tohono O’odham pottery is made?

Pima County Conservation Lands & Resources teamed up with local documentarian Lisa Molomot and University of Arizona students to produce a video series intended to support Tucson's Silverbell Road Project and explore local history. 

In this video, Tohono O’odham potter Reuben Naranjo teaches us some of his ancestors’ traditions as he gathers materials from the desert to build his beautiful handmade, open-fired pottery.
