Good morning,
Last Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting was a long one, and with good reason. We had two major agenda items to discuss and vote on: Project Blue and the finalization of the County's Fiscal Year 2025/26 Budget.
If you’re receiving this newsletter, you likely saw my statement released Tuesday outlining my position on Project Blue. I believe this project is a positive step forward for our community and a significant driver of economic development. The data company behind Project Blue has worked closely with our administrative team to address concerns and questions. They have also committed to investing in critical infrastructure to make the deal viable. As I stated in my press release, we will hold them accountable to those commitments, that is my promise to you.

The second key vote on Tuesday was the approval of the Fiscal Year 2025/26 Budget, one of the most important responsibilities we hold as members of the Board of Supervisors. Setting tax rates and adopting the county budget is a months-long process that directly impacts every service we provide to the public.
When we vote on the budget, it is our duty to exercise due diligence, carefully evaluating every option to ensure that Pima County taxpayers receive the services they need in the most efficient and effective way possible.
In a recent memo from County Administration, it was noted that there was capacity to reduce the primary property tax rate by $0.0356. Based on that information, I made a motion to lower the primary property tax rate from $5.2317 to $5.196. This reduction will result in a $4.1 million decrease in the overall budget.
I’m pleased to report that the final FY2025/26 budget was adopted unanimously, with a 5-0 vote by the Board.
