The metal roof of the warehouse glints in the afternoon sun. At first glance, there’s nothing unusual about it or the nearly identical building that sits beside it.
Zoom out, though, and the picture becomes clearer.
These two small, solar-powered buildings were built by Pima County Facilities Management as an energy-smart solution to a dilemma faced by a fellow department. Together, they illustrate the County’s commitment to finding economical – and environmentally friendly – answers whenever possible.
The County is updating its 10-year land-use plan, Pima Prospers, and wants the public to review and comment on its specifics, including energy efficiency and water conservation. When they do, they’ll see how another important document – the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan – continues to guide the County's land-use policies even after a quarter-century.

PACC provides free vet care to thousands of Pima County pets
It's been a busy spring for Pima Animal Care Center's mobile unit, Karen's Karing Van! The unit has already provided free surgery and wellness care to more than 3,000 pets in the County this year. The mobile clinic was launched in the summer of 2023 to offer veterinary services to pets in underserved communities.

UA video series: Local author explores one of Tucson's oldest neighborhoods
Pima County Conservation Lands & Resources teamed up with local documentarian Lisa Molomot and University of Arizona students to produce a video series, intended to support Tucson's Silverbell Road Project and explore local history.
In this video, historian Lydia Otero recounts the history of Barrio Viejo, one of the oldest and most diverse neighborhoods in Tucson. They also share family stories about La Calle, the vibrant community where their family lived for generations.

In May, we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Sydney G., who works at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, is writing a book to teach the numbers 1 to 10 in Iban, an Indigenous language of Malaysia. Sydney is a member of the Biblio Lotus team, which supports and values the culture of our Asian communities in Pima County.
