More hands lighten the lift
Our volunteer program has a variety of ways you can come and help our dogs and cats. One of those is our community dog walking days. Recently Raytheon sent a group of their employees out to take our pups for walks around the lake behind PACC. Everyone involved had a great time.
During our community walks, we don’t just turn the dogs loose with the groups who arrive. It’s pre-planned and we have some of our seasoned volunteers involved with introducing the walkers to the dogs and going over some of the safety protocols we want people to remember. Above is the Raytheon group getting that briefing.
When they take off on the walks the walkers are outfitted with all the gear they’ll need. Here you see a table of leashes, tags identifying the dogs they’ll be walking with some behavioral tips on each one, treats and other informational material they’ll need in order to have a safe and enjoyable walk.
And of course, there’s the instruction on how to double leash the animals, along with a few tips on interacting with the pups. Each dog is an individual with his or her own unique quirks – just like us – so the intros are done one at a time and away from the large group.

If your business, civic group, neighborhood association or just a group of friends would like to schedule a group walk, please reach out to us at paccvolunteer@pima.gov. Our dogs love the human interaction and they thrive when given the chance to be out of the kennels and enjoying the outdoors. We’re grateful to Raytheon’s group for taking the time to come and participate in the community dog walk program.
