Tucson’s Czechowski recognized at AAED Spring Conference
Pima County Economic Development staff attended the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) Spring Conference, held this year at the Hilton El Conquistador in Oro Valley from April 22-25.
A highlight of the conference is the presentation of the annual Economic Development Distinguished by Excellence Awards (EDDEs). These awards honor the best economic development practices for individuals, organizations, and companies that have significantly contributed to the advancement of economic growth across the state. One of the winners was Mike Czechowski, Senior Project Manager, City of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives who was selected as Economic Developer of the Year, Large Community.
Czechowski is recognized as a transformative leader in Tucson's economic development, driving major projects like Belden's $6.5 million investment and the Home Depot retail development. He has strategically expanded Tucson's industrial capacity through significant annexations and land development initiatives.

Moonshot Rural Pitch Competition comes to Ajo
Members of the Ajo Chamber of Commerce learned more about the Moonshot Rural Pitch Competition that will be held there on August 20.
People who have a “moonshot” business idea or an existing business they’d like to expand or have a product or business idea scribbled down on a napkin are encouraged to sign up for Moonshot's 6th Annual Rural Arizona Pitch Competition for entrepreneurs and business owners (aka, a showcase like you see on ABC's Shark Tank).
For those who sign up by June 15, there will be virtual and in person mentoring sessions to help them prepare for the competition that is sponsored locally by the International Sonoran Desert Alliance with help from the Ajo Chamber, Pima County Economic Development and Freeport McMoRan.

Ribbon cut at Sol Dog Lodge
The Marana Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting event for Sol Dog Lodge on Thursday, May 1 to celebrate the opening of this new facility for dogs in Marana.
Executive Director Valerie Pullara, who is also Vice Chair of the Pima County Small Business Commission, welcomed the crowd of over 100 people. She said this was a long journey with many partners and she was happy to see her dream has become a reality.
Sol Dog Lodge is both a community business and a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that supports dogs and their families. They provide dog training, grooming and boarding services.

Pima County is updating its 10-year comprehensive land use plan, Pima Prospers, and now is your chance to weigh in! The plan is currently in a 60-day review period to allow local and state agencies, stakeholder groups, businesses within the community, and residents like you to review and comment on the plan before it's submitted to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
