District 5 Supervisor and Board Vice Chair Adelita S. Grijalva offers her thanks and farewells to Pima County employees. Grijalva resigned from the Board of Supervisors April 1 to run for the Congressional seat vacated by her father, Raúl Grijalva, who died March 13.
As the long-serving director of Pima County Development Services, Carla Blackwell led her department through boom times and recessions alike. She’s also guided her team through procedural changes that have made them – as she proudly puts it – one of the best development services departments in the nation. And she's retiring this week. It’s been more than three months since Pima County launched Workday as its new software for processes related to payroll and human resources. There might not be much for most employees to do right now – except to keep on keeping on – but since this is all still relatively new, now is a good time to remind people of support options.

Employees who work downtown have a new place to go for coffee and snacks. Yellow Brick Coffee celebrated its soft opening on earlier this week in the walkway under the dome of the Pima County Historic Courthouse. The coffee shop is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays. YBC is currently only serving pastries, but plans are in the works to expand its menu to include lunch and catering.

Walking tour, music on tap at Courtyard April 11
Enjoy music and take part in a downtown walking tour and book-signing event April 11 with local author Sirena Rana. She will lead the walking tour at 10 a.m., followed by the signing of her latest book, Urban Trails Tucson, at noon inside the Visitor Center. Musical guest is Syrian violinist Fadi Iskandar. Rana’s book includes a half-page dedication to the late Steve Anderson, longtime trails advocate with Pima County Parks & Recreation, who died in November 2022.

Grab your cotton candy and funnel cakes! Pre-sale tickets are available now to the Pima County Fair, set for April 17-27 at the County Fairgrounds. Through April 16, fair-goers can purchase a carnival ride and midway game weekday discount pass for $30, which includes up to 10 rides or 10 carnival games. The pass is only good Monday through Friday, after 3 p.m. Employees may need to make the online purchase from home or a mobile device to avoid IT security issues.

In celebration of Bike Month, Pima County's Health and Environmental Quality departments will be offering events aimed at encouraging sustainable living and social well-being, and employees who participate can earn Wellness points.
