County touts assets, competitiveness at SelectUSA Mexico
Pima County Economic Development Director Heath Vescovi-Chiordi and District 2 Supervisor Dr. Matt Heinz and staff attended SelectUSA Mexico last month to meet with businesses that are looking to grow their business in the United States.
The event, which was held in Mexico City Feb. 24-27, brought together more than 35 economic development organizations from around the world, ranging from tech startups to governments to chambers.

TENWEST, by Startup Tucson, is back! This six-day festival and three-day conference is once again set to transform Downtown Tucson into a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity March 25-30.
As always, TENWEST offers an exciting lineup of speakers, workshops, networking events and interactive experiences designed to inspire and empower attendees. This year's themes are Trends, Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Wellness.

Economic Development director discusses regional impact with UA
The University of Arizona’s Research, Innovation & Impact department recently interviewed Pima County Economic Development Director Heath Vescovi-Chiordi about "Strengthening Our Regional Impact."
Questions range from his background in government work to how UA and Pima County work together, how UA can be a more effective collaborator, and Pima County’s approach to UA’s work for the mining industry.

City of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives highlights 2024 successes
The City of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives published its 2024 Annual Report last week to highlight its department's accomplishments.
Some of the highlights include number of businesses created (40), capital expenditures for announced projects ($51 million), total pipeline for capital expenditure projects ($20 billion), and acres annexed (382).
There are highlights for each of the department’s day-to-day work, including the Small Business Program, retention and expansion, workforce growth and grants, attracting investment, and international trade.

SBC Profile: Meet Raúl Aguirre
The Pima County Small Business Commission (SBC) was created in 2003 to advise the Board of Supervisors on current and proposed County policies affecting small business. It also helps facilitate communication between the County and small businesses by providing a forum for issues to be brought to the attention of the Board of Supervisors.
We will be featuring each of the Small Business Commissioners in our newsletter. This month, we are highlighting Raúl E. Aguirre, an appointee of vice chair Adelita Grijalva and a past chair of the SBC.

Arizona-Sonora Economic Forum set to strengthen binational trade
Tickets are available for the Arizona-Sonora Economic Forum, a premier binational collaboration focused on economic development and trade, which is set to take place on Thursday, May 8, at the Tucson Convention Center.
This landmark event will feature Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo, and will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and business professionals in an effort to drive economic prosperity between Arizona and Sonora.
