Community cats can be fixed for free at PACC’s upcoming Snip ‘n’ Tip, Feb. 21-23

PIMA COUNTY, Feb. 5, 2025 – Pima Animal Care Center’s semi-annual Snip ‘n’ Tip, a free spay/neuter event for community cats, will be hosted Feb. 21-23 at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road.

Snip ‘n’ Tip is for community cats and kittens living outdoors in Pima County. The shelter invites any member of the public to participate by bringing in outdoor cats in secure cat carriers or humane traps. The quickest way to tell if a cat in your neighborhood needs to be fixed is by checking whether they have a “tipped” ear, where a small portion of one ear is missing. The tip provides an easily visible marker that the cat has been altered.

Snip ‘n’ Tip is one part of PACC’s robust Community Cats program, which works to spay and neuter outdoor, unowned cats across Pima County to keep them healthy and happy and to prevent future litters of kittens being born outdoors. PACC spayed and neutered 596 cats at the last Snip ‘n’ Tip in October 2024.

Appointments are required and can be booked at waitwhile.com/book/snipntip. Attendees will be notified when the cats they bring in are ready to be picked up.

People who bring cats will be responsible for returning them back to their neighborhood. Kittens should weigh at least 1.5 pounds and have a committed caretaker to monitor them after surgery.

If members of the public need to borrow a cat trap or carrier, they can contact PACC’s Community Cats Program by emailing communitycats@pima.gov.

All cats brought to the event will receive:

  • A brief exam by a licensed veterinarian
  • FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) vaccines
  • Rabies vaccines
  • Parasite treatment as needed
  • Minor medical care as needed
  • Microchip implantation
  • An ear tip (humanely conducted under anesthesia)
  • Female cats will also receive a green tattoo next to the spay site (humanely conducted under anesthesia)

This event is made possible by Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, Petco Love, Bonnie Kay, and Colorado Animal Rescue Express.
