Regional Flood Control District requesting public comments on planning documents
PIMA COUNTY, Jan. 10, 2025 – The Pima County Regional Flood Control District is soliciting public comment on two key documents that guide the actions of the department. Draft versions of the Floodplain Management Plan and the Watershed Master Plan are currently available for review online at www.pima.gov/fmp.
The development of both documents is part of the District’s regular process to assess its current priorities, work with stakeholders to identify new problem areas, and develop mitigation strategies. The documents will act as guides for the department’s activities through 2030.
The Watershed Master Plan acts as a hazard assessment report, identifying issues in specific watersheds and explaining the District’s activities in response to those hazards. The plan is divided by watershed, with each one receiving its own self-contained chapter with background information on that specific watershed. At the end of each chapter will be a section titled Problem Areas. Flood Control staff encourage the public to comment on issues identified in this section and bring up any additional issues.
The second document, the Floodplain Management Plan, is the report detailing the District’s planned response to the hazards identified in the Watershed Master Plan. Section 8.3 of the Floodplain Management Plan is the Action Plan, which lays out specific activities taking place in each watershed for review.
The public can submit written or verbal comments prior to the Feb. 1, 2025, deadline by email, mail, or calling the phone number listed below.
