The staff, volunteers, fosters and rescues who make up the Pima Animal Care Center team do an amazing job on behalf of the community. During my time serving as Interim Director, I will be sharing with you information — via this new newsletter we’re calling Shelter Scoop — that helps to tell that story. These are stories you won’t otherwise hear or see in the media, but you should.
Much of what you read is how PACC’s kennels are full. Those messages come with pleas to adopt or foster an animal. What doesn’t get as much publicity is the wonderful response to those pleas, responses that come from both members of the community, and from rescues that partner with PACC.
Rescue partners assist us in finding new homes for our animals. Our most active valued rescue partner is Passion 4 Paws. The top photo shows Blue proudly wearing his ‘cone of shame’ after having surgery.
Blue had been surrendered to PACC at about 6 months of age. He had some behavioral issues – just like lots of two-legged young toddlers – and his original family used the shelter as their option of choice. Being in a kennel is the last place a pet should be – and thanks to the great work Passion 4 Paws did, Blue is now successfully integrated with his new family. (See above, left photo).
Among the many other dogs Passion 4 Paws has helped find homes, they have found homes for over 50 dogs that may have otherwise been euthanized. Overall PACC has saved over 200 dogs this year through the great work of our placement team, dogs who without that dedicated effort may not have made it out of the shelter environment.
As we near the holiday season I will share some of the various ways the public can assist in saving lives by adopting or fostering. This week the message is a big thank you to our rescue partners, and Passion 4 Paws in particular for assuring Blue and the many other successes they’ve assisted with have loving forever homes in which they can live and thrive.
