Economic Development assistant director earns AZED Pro certification
Pima County Economic Development’s assistant director Kelle Maslyn earned her Arizona Economic Development Professional (AZED Pro) certification from the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) in September and was presented with her plaque Oct. 24.
The certification program is a comprehensive training with content developed by industry experts and thought leaders. It covers topics such as strategic planning, business development, financial management, marketing strategies, and more.
Property Explorer website earns recognition from AAED
Pima County Economic Development’s new Property Explorer website was awarded a Golden Prospector Award of Merit on Oct. 24 from the Arizona Association for Economic Development during its annual Fall Forum conference.
AAED presented 13 Golden Prospector Awards, as well as seven Merit Awards, across six different categories which recognize excellence, innovation, and creativity in economic development.

Small Business Commission selects award winners
The Pima County Small Business Commission recently selected the honorees of its annual Small Business Awards.
It was a tough decision for the commissioners since there were a record number of nominations this year, with 203 nominations for 115 different businesses.
Last year, there were 71 nominations for 61 businesses.

ABCC tours Douglas Port of Entry
Members of the Arizona Border Counties Coalition visited the Raul H. Castro Port of Entry and met with community leaders from Cochise County and the City of Douglas Oct. 21.
The visit allowed them to learn more about the economic opportunities in the area with the construction of a new commercial port set to break ground in 2025.

SBC Profile: Meet Valerie Pullara
The Pima County Small Business Commission (SBC) was created in 2003 to advise the Board of Supervisors on current and proposed County policies affecting small business. It also helps facilitate communication between the County and small businesses by providing a forum for issues to be brought to the attention of the Board of Supervisors.
We will be featuring each of the Small Business Commissioners in our newsletter. This month we are highlighting our newest Commissioner, Valerie Pullara, who is an appointee of Supervisor Sylvia Lee.

UA students create ideas for Roy Place usage
Pima County Economic Development supported the W.A. Franke Honors College “Problems to Possibilities” program, which is an in-depth and interactive experience in which students are presented with a real-world problem and asked to describe a real-life solution to take it from problem to possibility.
In September and October, these students tackled the challenge of how to activate the Roy Place building in Downtown Tucson, which is owned by Pima County.
