Pima County leaders meet with Council on Foreign Relations
At the invitation of Pima Community College, Pima County Economic Development staff along with regional partners at City of Tucson Economic Initiatives, AZ Tech Council and Sun Corridor, Inc. met with the Council on Foreign Relations as part of their national listening tour on Oct. 8 at Pima Community College’s Downtown Campus.
The group discussed international relations, trade, and local economic and workforce development initiatives to help inform federal level policy that will be beneficial to Southern Arizona in Economic Development and Workforce Development in the future.
Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recognizes Orchid Gala honorees
The Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced its honorees for the 2024 Orchid Gala and Bi-National Awards Ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of outstanding individuals and organizations in the Southern Arizona and binational community.
This year’s honorees represent a diverse group of leaders, innovators, and community pillars who have made significant contributions to business, culture, and heritage in our region.

Students meet with industry on Manufacturing Day
The third annual Manufacturing Day was held Oct. 17, bringing together partners in the manufacturing industry and high school students from throughout the region.
Manufacturers Sargent Aerospace & Defense, FLSmidth & Co., AGM Container Controls, Evaero, ITDE and Howmet Aerospace hosted high school students at their places of business and gave tours so the students can see the job opportunities available locally.

Tech Expo highlights emerging industries
The Arizona Technology Council hosted its 12th annual Tech and Business Expo Oct. 16 to highlight tech industries including transportation, automation, optics, biotech, mining, aerospace, defense, logistics, robotics, space exploration, IT, and more.
The event started with a discussion on “Arizona’s Mineral Wealth: Navigating the Future of Mining and Innovation” that was moderated by Pima County Economic Development Director Heath Vescovi-Chiordi.

Annual lunch features former Mexico Ambassador
Pima County staff attended the Sun Corridor, Inc. Annual Luncheon Oct. 9.
The event featured a keynote address from Gerónimo Gutierrez Fernandez, who most recently served as Mexico’s Ambassador to the United States. Southern Arizona community members also heard about business organization efficiency, trade with Mexico, and overall competitiveness.
The Pima County Economic Development team was able to meet with its partners from the City of Tucson and the Arizona Commerce Authority after the lunch to collaborate on current and future projects.

UA Tech Park renews long-term lease with IBM, supporting economic growth in Tucson

Are you considering starting a nonprofit organization? The Community Foundation of Southern Arizona hosted a free in-person workshop Oct. 21 that was tailored for individuals who have a feasible idea for a nonprofit and are ready to explore the practicalities of starting and running one.
The workshop was sponsored by Startup Tucson, the Center for Healthy Nonprofits and SCORE of Southern Arizona.
