County and City to cooperate on opioid crisis programs and funding
The Board of Supervisors and the Tucson Mayor and Council May 7 agreed to enter into a 5-year agreement to pool opioid litigation settlement funding and work collaboratively to reduce the incidence of illicit opioid use. The Pima County region expects to receive more than $100 million over 18 years from the state’s One Arizona opioid settlement fund. Both governments already have multiple efforts underway to reduce opioid abuse and addiction. The collaboration will, among other things, develop a regional mental health and substance abuse campaign; convene a response team to reduce overdose deaths; and develop a program that connects individuals and families to substance misuse and prevention services.

Land conservation program secures key wildlife linkages, expands mountain parks
The Board of Supervisors appropriates $2 million a year to expand and improve the County’s conservation land system. In the latest update on the program, the County in past year acquired over 600 acres across eastern Pima County, along with a 6,900-acre State grazing lease. Much of the focus was on acquiring inholdings within already conserved acquisitions including ranch and farm headquarters, a wildlife crossing of the Central Arizona Project canal west of the Tucson Mountains, expansion of Tucson Mountain and Colossal Cave mountain parks, and an inholding within the County’s M Diamond Ranch on the east side of the Catalina Mountains.
