Rare native fish splashes down at Canoa Pond

The fish relocation at Historic Canoa Ranch

Blue damselflies danced across the surface of the pond. A faint breeze ruffled the leaves of a tree. Then the early afternoon stillness was interrupted by a splash, marking the arrival of the pond’s newest resident — one of more than 100 endangered fish relocated to Historic Canoa Ranch by staff and volunteers from Pima County and Arizona Game and Fish.

Rent a pool in Pima County!

It's pool party season in Pima County! You can reserve an entire pool at select community centers every Saturday between June 1 and Aug. 3.

For $250, you and up to 65 guests can enjoy a pool with all of its water features and have lifeguards onsite.

The heat is here, but so are ways to stay safe and healthy

Anyone can experience heat illness or death

Many Pima County residents have lived with extreme heat all their lives, but those high temperatures can quickly have an impact on even the healthiest person.

That's why the Pima County Board of Supervisors declared the second week in May to be Heat Awareness Week. This year, it's being observed May 6 through May 10.

New PDC director brings wide-ranging experience to Pima County

Rod Lane

Rod Lane may have just started his new job, but in a way, he’s been preparing for it all his life. Until recently, Lane was the South Central District Engineer at the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). He already knows many of the County’s roads and bridges well. Ask him about his biggest project, the massive reconstruction of Interstate 10, and he can tell you the details.  

Now, as the director of Pima County’s Project Design and Construction department, Lane is taking on a new challenge.
