County-sponsored stargazing events reveal night sky’s hidden gems
The solar eclipse may be over, but the night sky offers numerous other marvels to enjoy. Thanks to local dark-sky ordinances and numerous parks nestled far from city lights, Pima County is a haven for amateur astronomers of all ages. Every month, the County sponsors free stargazing events like the one that took place April 5 at Tucson Mountain Park. Volunteers from TAAA set up their telescopes on suitably dark County properties and invite the public to take a closer look at the wonders of the night sky.
‘It’s real’: Transition Center helping client break the cycle of incarceration
The man, in his late 30s, had been in and out of the Pima County jail about a dozen times, unable to change his ways and avoid incarceration. Until he walked into the Pima County Transition Center. That was about six months ago, soon after the opening of the Transition Center, a pilot program operated by the Pima County Department of Justice Services.

But thanks to a partnership among several Pima County departments, local aviation business partners and schools, many positions left vacant could be filled within a few short years.

Two county departments launching newsletters
Do you want to stay on top of what’s happening in Pima County? Two departments recently launched newsletters focused on their specific fields to keep interested constituents up to date.
In April the Pima County Economic Development Department launched their newsletter, Pick Pima, to keep interested parties informed on the department’s efforts attract new businesses to the region as well as their work on behalf of existing industries in Pima County.

Meet adoptable dogs, donate to PACC at The Boxyard
PACC is headed downtown to The Boxyard this Sunday, April 14, for a foster adoption event and supply drive! Swing by from noon to 3 p.m. to grab a drink and meet some amazing adoptable dogs, one of whom could even be your new best friend!
All dogs and puppies attending the event will be free to adopt and are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.

New FEMA designation makes some residents eligible for discount on flood insurance
Summer monsoons are right around the corner, and there's no better time to make sure you have flood insurance coverage. The County’s new Community Rating System designation as a Class-2 Community by the Federal Emergency Management Agency means those in unincorporated areas are eligible for a 40% discount on flood insurance premiums. Our incarcerated citizens write to the library seeking information, entertainment, and community, just like any of our other patrons. The library’s Reference Department is poised to answer those needs through the letters program.

Loop maps available at all library branches
Spring has officially arrived in Pima County and there is no better way to get out and explore than by using The Loop, covering nearly 140 miles of mixed-use pathways. Now you can get your very own map of the Loop at any of the 27 different branches of the Pima County Public Library. Library hours may vary by location and can be found online.
