Volunteers lead fight against invasive species
When the Sonoran Desert Weedwackers started removing invasive species from Tucson Mountain Park in 2000, the buffelgrass they were tasked with pulling out had an almost 60-year head start on them. Thankfully, a group of dedicated volunteers is working with Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation to beat back the invaders.
Las Artes grad finds quick success through new apprenticeship program
The past few months have been full of twists and turns for 21-year-old Gabriel Elias Gomez. First came making the decision to buckle down and earn his General Equivalency Diploma through Las Artes Arts & Education Program. About a month later, he found himself at Las Artes again, taking part in a new career-readiness program that's going to land him an apprenticeship with a local union trade hall.

Get ready for some outdoorsy fun this month!
Spring is almost here, and so are several fun, outdoor events in Pima County. The Tucson Festival of Books will make its way back to southern Arizona on March 9 and 10. March 9 is also when the Tour de Cookie cycling event hits The Loop. And get your community cats spayed and neutered for free at PACC’s Snip ’n’ Tip event, happening March 8 through 10.

Pima County seeking lifeguards for summer jobs
Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation (NRPR) is looking to hire more lifeguards for this summer. NRPR is interested in candidates who are either currently certified with American Red Cross Lifeguarding or who plan on being certified by May 25, when Pima County’s swimming pools open for the season.

Pima County musicians: Your work could be part of the Library’s new streaming service
Calling all Pima County musicians who want to reach a wider audience, build their following, and earn a little money! The Library is launching a locally sourced streaming service called Desert Streams and wants to consider including your work.
The Library is accepting submissions until March 15.

Our social media team wants to feature your adventures in the County we love, whether it’s out at a museum, a trail, a County facility, a park, in odd weather, or even shenanigans at your job.
