This year, we launched the County's new website, made health care more accessible and completed a years-long improvement road improvement project and more!
Health Department focuses on strengthening tribal partnerships
Marcelino Flores has a new role leveraging his long-standing connections among indigenous communities, in the community and workforce development world and now, in public health.
Those experiences made him a nice fit when the Pima County Health Department created a Tribal Liaison position in October.

After nine decades, Silverbell finally getting two-lane bridge at Blanco Wash
For nearly 90 years, Blanco Wash at Silverbell Road has been served by a one-lane bridge, one of the oldest in Pima County. “It was designed to be a temporary bridge,” said Tony Somers, a project manager at Pima County Project Design and Construction. “It appears to not have fully engineered bridge support structures.”
Now it’s set to be replaced with a new two-lane bridge, scheduled to open in January 2025.

County community centers hosting array of winter activities
Have you or your kids felt a little cooped up over winter break?
Pima County's community centers offer plenty to do between Dec. 26 and Jan. 5, including sports tournaments, fun classes and plenty of arts and crafts.

Poinsettia: What’s in a name?
Poinsettia. Flor de Nochebuena. Flor de Navidad. Estrella de Navidad. Flor de Fuego. Easter Flower. Cuetlaxóchitl. The Euphorbia pulcherrima is a plant of many names.
Today, their big red (or pink or white) leaves are almost synonymous with the holiday season, showing off their true brilliant colors in the winter. But, as Pima County library staff tell us, Nochebuenas have not always been associated with Christmas.
