 Kino Veterans' Workforce Center helps vets succeed in civilian life
After serving in the Air Force for 14 years, Alicia Fuller is hoping to resume her involvement in the military. Fuller is a full-time student at Arizona State University majoring in social work. Thanks to the Pima County Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center, she’s one step closer to landing her dream job — as a social worker with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The veterans center offers everything from housing services for homeless veterans; help applying for disability compensation and other benefits; and job training.
County wins Deal of the Year award for American Battery Factory project
Pima County's Economic Development Office has won two Golden Prospector awards from the Arizona Association for Economic Development, including the 2023 Deal of the Year award for the project that brought American Battery Factory to the County. The project is expected to result in at least 1,000 new, well-paying jobs and will have an economic impact of $3.1 billion in Pima County over the next decade.

PACC creates 'cheat sheets' to help potential adopters find perfect pet
When it comes to dogs, there’s someone out there for everyone. And now that there are nearly 500 dogs at the Pima Animal Care Center, that someone can be found at the shelter. PACC’s staff has recently found a new way to match potential adopters with dogs that would fit in best in their homes. The staff has created "cheat sheets" that group dogs by compatible situations, such as getting along with kids, cats, other dogs and even whether the canine is a good couch potato.

'Best-kept secret:' County's Business Services aids employers through education, collaboration
They've brokered events to introduce high school students to manufacturing careers. They work closely with local employers to help them recruit and retain employees. One local vice president is beyond grateful for the help. But for the Pima County One-Stop’s Business Services team, it's all in a day's work.

Canoa Ranch rehabilitation project earns gubernatorial honors
Please take online survey on pollution-reduction plan
Pima County's Department of Environmental Quality is asking all residents to take part in a pollution-reduction survey by Dec. 31 to help determine how best to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollutants in the community. Pima County is working with other local jurisdictions and community-based organizations to develop a durable and ambitious plan that reflects the community's needs and will strengthen the clean-energy economy while also addressing environmental injustices in disadvantaged communities.

For example, this weekend you can go to the Fall Festival at the Pima Animal Care Center; attend any of a plethora of classes offered by Pima County; or get geared up for next weekend's big cycling event — El Tour de Tucson. Geographic Information Systems Fair is Nov. 17
Pima County’s Information Technology Department will host its 23rd Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Fair on Nov. 17 in the basement of the Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Ave. The fair, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and open to the public. Attendees can learn about GIS and related technologies. Multiple departments and agencies will be participating, offering live demonstrations, prize drawings, popcorn and snacks.

Looking to launch your own business? Pima County Public Library can help
The Pima County Public Library has plenty to offer people who want to start their own businesses, from an economic development librarian who knows the local business terrain to the library's Ignite business services. Those resources, and more, allowed the library to help Kabul Corner, a new Afghan market and restaurant in Tucson, set up shop.
