PACC takes in more than 300 pets in three days
PIMA COUNTY, Aug. 30, 2023 – Pima Animal Care Center is asking for immediate fosters and adopters after taking in 186 animals, including 124 dogs and puppies, since Monday, Aug. 28. PACC took in 118 pets (75 dogs and 43 cats) on Aug. 29 alone, putting the shelter beyond critical capacity.
In addition, the shelter’s Animal Protection Services team is currently working a mass impound of more than 120 fowl, placing further strain on the shelter’s space resources. The case is an active investigation so public details are limited. Because it’s an impound situation, the birds won’t be immediately available for adoption and will have to be cared for at PACC for the duration of the investigation.
PACC needs fosters and adopters for puppies and dogs of all sizes immediately.
“With 490 dogs already in the shelter, we are facing a critical moment at PACC,” said Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services. “Those who foster or adopt today can quite literally help save lives.”
HOW PEOPLE CAN HELP:
-
ADOPT: There are 681 pets at PACC in need of homes and more than 1,600 pets in foster care. All adult pets are currently free to adopt. (A $20 licensing fee may apply.) People who are interested in adopting can stop by the shelter during regular business hours.
-
FOSTER: PACC has a particular need for community members who can foster puppies. The shelter currently has two mother dogs with nine puppies each as well as several puppies that are underage and need fostering until they are old enough to be adopted.
-
HELP STRAYS FIND THEIR OWNERS: This is the easiest and most helpful way to assist the shelter. PACC has extensive suggestions listed on their website for helping lost pets make their way home without having to come into the overcrowded shelter.
Those interested in fostering or adopting a pet may come to PACC’s facility at 4000 N. Silverbell Road during operating hours. PACC is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon to 7 p.m., on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All adopted pets come with up-to-date on vaccinations, a microchip, and a spay or neuter surgery.
