 Public Defender's Office helps skateboarder stick landing in life
When Isaiah Cotroneo found himself in trouble with the law again and facing a drug-possession charge, he expected he would get six to 10 years in prison. Fortunately for him, someone from the Pima County Public Defender’s Office was assigned to handle his case. With the public defender's help, he was able to avoid prison time, underwent drug treatment, had his rights fully restored and eventually started a business as a skateboarding instructor. "I owe it all to my public defender," he says.
There's a pup for every personality at Pima Animal Care Center
Clear the Shelters month is coming to an end at the Pima Animal Care Center, but it’s not too late to find a pup like Mystic (at left) who will fit in perfectly at your home. PACC has 420 dogs in a variety of sizes, breeds and ages. Many are house- or crate-trained and get along great with other dogs, cats and kids. To celebrate the end of the month, PACC is hosting the “Dog Days of Summer Adoption Night” on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road.

Safety officials remind residents: 'Don't hike in the heat'
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and Golder Ranch Fire Chief Thomas Brandhuber remind all county residents and visitors to avoid going on hikes during the hottest time of the day. If you must hike during the Arizona summer, make sure to only go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. And always carry plenty of water.

If you ever need help getting online, solving technical problems with internet-connected devices and building digital skills, the Pima County Public Library suggests giving Connect Arizona a try. Connect Arizona is a free resource for digital skills training. The program's digital navigators provide one-on-one assistance to help Arizona residents and are available by phone, text message and email six days a week — Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Don't let the devices win. Call Connect Arizona when you are having technical issues.
