 Supervisors approve adoption of new employee classification, compensation plan
The Board of Supervisors at its July 25 meeting approved the implementation of Phase 1 and the initiation of Phase 2 of the Classification and Compensation Plan. The revision significantly updates the existing system, which was created more than 60 years ago. If a recommended option is approved, it is anticipated that a majority of employees will receive a salary adjustment by the end of Phase 2.
Employees Who Bear Down: IT manager incorporates lessons from college football
Dusty Alexander, a business systems manager for Pima County’s Information Technology Department, always remembers the lessons he learned playing college football at the University of Arizona. Football is the ultimate team game, and playing on either side of the line of scrimmage — as Alexander did at Arizona — requires the most positional teamwork. If one person on the line doesn’t do his job, then the whole play often falls apart. Now, he uses that Bear Down philosophy while on Team Pima County.

Pima Perks: Kashable employee loan program makes borrowing money a breeze

Weigh in on proposed changes to regional transit services
If you take public transportation, now is the time to have your say about potential changes. The Pima Association of Governments/Regional Transportation Authority and the City of Tucson are proposing Sun Tran, Sun Express and Sun Shuttle route modifications as a result of their extensive comprehensive operational analysis. Comments are being accepted through Sept. 8 at www.tucsoncoa.com. The public may also make comments through Sept. 8 at a dozen town halls, three pop-up events and two virtual meetings.

NRPR division manager retires after 28 years
Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation bid farewell this week to longtime division manager Joe Barr, who retired on Aug. 2. Barr joined the County as a recreation coordinator for the pools in 1995 and went on to work as a program manager, a superintendent and, finally, as a division manager.

Stretch your brain with poetry challenge
If you're looking to give your mind a workout this summer, join the Pima County Public Library as it participates in the Sealey Challenge by reading one book of poetry a day for the month of August. The Sealey Challenge started in 2017 when poet Nicole Sealey challenged herself to read a book of poems each day for a month and gained a following while chronicling her experience on social media.
