Board of Supervisors approves $3.6 million in Outside Agency funding

PIMA COUNTY, July 25, 2023 — The Pima County Board of Supervisors at its July 25 meeting approved funding of $3,623,520 in Outside Agency grants for the 2023-24 fiscal year, which began July 1.

The Outside Agency Program provides financial support to nonprofit community agencies that collaborate with the County to provide public assistance for social services, health, and economic development. The program targets economically disadvantaged and other at-risk populations, and specifically assures that support is provided to meet basic needs and services in rural areas.

“The Outside Agency Program shows Pima County’s commitment to residents via established and trusted nonprofit partners that are best positioned to provide direct community resources and services,” said Dan Sullivan, Pima County's Community & Workforce Development director.

Funding will go to 49 agencies that administer 77 programs.

Outside Agency funding by category:

  • Community services — $318,936
  • Emergency food and clothing — $786,164
  • Senior support services — $240,514
  • Support services, shelter, and domestic violence services — $436,496
  • Youth, young adults and family support — $685,004
  • General services — $794,646

An additional $361,760 was set aside for County departments managing Outside Agency programs with other sources, including the Pima Association of Governments. See the full list of agencies and the funding they received.

The largest beneficiary was the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, which will receive $456,305 for four programs, including $331,493 for emergency food assistance.

The Outside Agency Citizen Review Committee, which is comprised of six members who are appointed by each supervisor and the county administrator to serve as their representatives, examines each program before making funding recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

The Outside Agency Program is part of the County's Department of Community & Workforce Development, which is a single point of contact for wide-ranging assistance and service programs. The County’s Attractions & Tourism Department also administers the Outside Agency Program. The Board of Supervisors on June 20 approved $420,000 via Attractions & Tourism for nonprofit agencies with events, celebrations and programs that support tourism in Pima County.
