 County administrator congratulates exemplary employees, encourages nominations
In her monthly video address to Pima County employees, County Administrator Jan Lesher takes a moment to congratulate the first batch of Distinguished Recipients in the new Employee Recognition Program. These honors will take place on a quarterly basis and the deadline to submit nominations for the next round is Sept. 10.
CWD staff member gets adrenaline pumping by chasing thunderstorms
By day, Donna Ruthruff is a program coordinator with the Pima County Department of Community & Workforce Development. By nights and weekends, she is a storm-chasing photographer. Ruthruff, who runs a photography business, is open to shooting anything, including families, pets and events. But monsoon photography is her first love and fits her adventure-seeking personality.

Supervisors to celebrate first 9 recipients in new Employee Recognition Program
Nine County employees will be honored at the July 25 Board of Supervisors meeting as the first Distinguished Recipients in the County’s new Employee Recognition Program. Honorees were nominated by supervisors/managers and their Appointed Authority, then a committee of fellow employees rated them on how well they exemplified the County values of being Accountable, Respectful and Ethical. They also were ranked on their customer service skills.

Late Assessor's Office employee honored for quarter-century of service to County
Maria Acedo, a longtime employee at the Pima County Assessor’s Office who died suddenly earlier this year, received a posthumous award for her service to the County at the July 11 Board of Supervisors meeting. Acedo’s mother, daughter and other members of her family were present to receive the award, which was presented to them by County Assessor Suzanne Droubie. Acedo, who died April 2, worked for the County for nearly 25 years.

Be on lookout for new payroll pay card
Bank of America will soon end its payroll pay card program, which means all Bank of America pay card holders will be automatically enrolled in a new program called Wisely, which was developed by ADP. Those who received a letter from the Department of Finance & Risk Management explaining the transition will receive their new card in the mail prior to Aug. 4.

Environmental Quality director rides off into sunset ... again
Retirement was sweet for Ursula Nelson. Re-retirement might be even sweeter. Nelson served as director of the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality for more than 20 years before stepping down in January 2022. However, she put quality time and travel with her husband on hold when Pima County needed her again in January 2023. Nelson has led PDEQ as interim director for the past several months while the County conducted a national search that resulted in the hiring of Scott DiBiase on July 17.

Get tech questions answered at IT's Office Hours
The Pima County Information Technology Department is ready to answer your computer and technology questions. Join the department Aug. 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for its monthly Office Hours — a roundtable forum that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at IT as well as an opportunity to ask questions and learn about new and upcoming technology changes. You can also express any concerns about County technologies. The main topic this month is resetting passwords. All Pima County employees are invited to attend.

Borrow blood pressure kit at your local library
The Pima County Public Library, in collaboration with the American Heart Association, is offering blood pressure kits for check out at all branches. Borrowers can simply place a hold on a kit and it will be sent to any library location for pickup. Kits may be checked out for six weeks, with one possible renewal, if no one is waiting.
