Friends of PACC hosting free spay/neuter events for dogs during “Big Fix Week”

PIMA COUNTY, June 7, 2023 — Friends of Pima Animal Care Center is hosting several days of free spay/neuter clinics during what it is calling “Big Fix Week.” ASAVET Charities will help facilitate the clinics.

During “Big Fix Week,” Friends of PACC’s goal is to spay and neuter dogs of the breeds most commonly seen at Pima Animal Care Center. For large breeds, this includes pit bull-type dogs, huskies, German shepherds or any mixes of those breeds. For small breeds, only Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes will be eligible. The clinics are only open to Pima County residents.

The clinics will take place:

  • Thursday, June 15, in the Flowing Wells area at iHeart Media Studios, 3202 N. Oracle Road, beginning at 8 a.m. There will be 30 spots for large breeds and 10 spots for Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes.
  • Friday, June 16, at the Catalina Community Center, 16562 N. Oracle Road, beginning at 8 a.m. There will be 20 spots available for large breeds and 10 spots available for Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes.
  • Saturday, June 17, at the Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic, 5408 S. 12th Ave., beginning at 8 a.m. There will be 30 spots available for large breeds and 10 spots for Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes.

These events are first-come, first-served and pet owners should plan to arrive early and wait in line in order to secure a spot. Dogs will need to be on leashes.

Laura O’Brien, Friends of PACC’s board chair, said events like these are beneficial for both the individual pet and the entire pet population.

“By spaying and neutering your pet, they will experience so many crucial health benefits, and you'll help control the pet homelessness crisis in Pima County,” said O’Brien.

PACC will also be hosting a free spay/neuter event for its rescue partners on June 10. In all, Friends of PACC will provide free spay and neuter surgeries for 165 dogs during Big Fix Week.
