Rae's Place, downtown convenience store with a heart, will soon be closing its doors
Rae's Place, the convenience store that has been a steady presence at 25 N. Stone Ave., will close its doors permanently on April 28 to make way for the planned expansion of the Fox Theatre next door. Running the store hasn’t always been easy, said Rae, 38, and her husband, Robin, 43. Yet they managed to make it work since the day about 18 years ago when Robin walked into the store, fresh off of losing his roofing job.

Well Done: United Way nominations for ECAP; making Easter special for kids; a volunteer hops to it
In each issue, eScoop likes to give a shout-out to employees and departments who have earned special recognition. We want to hear about colleagues who have earned kudos on the job; who are going above and beyond the call of duty; or who are being recognized for their work or volunteerism outside the office. Tell us about employees who should receive a pat on the back by emailing the eScoop editor.
In this issue, you’ll read about a couple of prestigious nominations for the County’s ECAP campaign and its leader; a County employee who made sure children in transitional housing had a memorable Easter; and a volunteer who hopped to it when an Easter party was in need of a particular furry visitor.

Tackle medical expenses with health savings accounts
Pima County’s got perks. Enough of them, in fact, that we like to regularly profile in eScoop the many benefits available to County employees. In this issue, we're highlighting health savings accounts, or HSAs. The accounts allow anyone enrolled in the County’s high-deductible health insurance plan to put aside up to $3,850 (for single coverage) or $7,750 (for family coverage) in pretax dollars for health expenses. Anyone over 55 can contribute an extra $1,000 toward those expenses. The best part about the HSAs is that Pima County will contribute $1,000 to your HSA for single coverage or $2,000 for family coverage.
