Pima Animal Care and Tucson Subaru partnering on Oct. 22 adoption event

PIMA COUNTY, Oct. 14, 2022 – In an effort to support animal welfare in the community and help the hardest-to-adopt shelter animals find loving homes, Pima Animal Care Center and Friends of PACC are partnering with Tucson Subaru to host a pet adoption event Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Tucson Subaru, 4901 N. Oracle Road.

The effort to connect pets and pet lovers is part of #MakeADogsDay, a national effort in its fourth year that encourages pet owners to do something special for their dogs or consider adopting an “underdog” from a shelter.

Tucson Subaru and Subaru retailers will donate $100 to Friends of PACC for every pet adopted in October, up to $3,100 in total.

Subaru is also helping spotlight shelter animals who need the most help – the older, physically challenged and “different” dogs that they lovingly call the “underdogs,” who are often the last to be adopted.

Mister is one of these “underdogs.” Mister has been at PACC since December 2021 – nearly a year - and suffers from seizures and valley fever. Despite his struggles, Mister is a sweet, lovable pup with a great smile who has earned many fans around the shelter.

Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services, said that PACC staff and volunteers hope that this event will be a chance for underdogs like Mister to be adopted and to spread the word about these pets.

“Often when an animal has some sort of challenge, they tend to be passed over for other dogs,” said Dangler. “When we have so many animals, any exposure for these ‘underdogs’ is so appreciated.”

Nationally, Subaru has donated over $42 million to national and local organizations that help in the adoption, rescue, transport, and health of nearly 350,000 animals and pets. Tucson Subaru in particular has supported Friends of PACC in many ways, including being the title sponsor for the Tucson Subaru Pets of Pima Parade.
