 Supervisors approve canvass of Primary Election
PIMA COUNTY, Aug. 16, 2022 - The Pima County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the Official Election Canvass of the Aug. 2 Primary Election at its Aug. 15 meeting.
As required by state law, the Board of Supervisors must canvass the results of the election to certify the accuracy of its final count. The final tabulation provided in the canvass includes all voted ballots, including the early ballots and provisional ballots cast during the election.
In total, 227,569 ballots were counted. Voter turnout was 36.33% with 626,320 registered voters. In 2020, voter turnout for the Primary Election was 42.48% with 584,070 registered voters.
Included among the ballots received were 4,333 provisional ballots. These are ballots issued to voters who appear on the roster or e-pollbook as having received an early ballot-by-mail, but either affirmed that they have not voted the ballot-by-mail or surrendered it to the polling place inspector on Election Day. Of the 4,333 provisional ballots voted on Election Day, 3,615 were issued to voters who had already received an early ballot in the mail.
In addition, provisional ballots are not counted until after regular ballots are counted to be certain a voter does not vote more than once.

Looking ahead to the Nov. 8 General Election, here are some important dates to know:
- Voter registration deadline: Oct. 11
- Early in-person voting: Oct. 12 – Nov. 4
- Last day to request a ballot by mail: Oct. 28
