RWRD, in partnership with Southwest Gas, will deliver clean-burning renewable natural gas to homes and businesses throughout the community. The natural gas is made from biogas, a byproduct of the secondary wastewater treatment process.
In the past, the gas had been flared as a waste product because it had impurities, and it was rendered unfit for commercial viability. The new refinery at the Tres Rios WRF removes most of the impurities, and what’s left is a clean-burning renewable fuel.
Director's View
This is shaping up to be great month for RWRD. First, we’ve got the beautiful colors of the fall and cooler weather coming our way. And with more and more people getting vaccinated, we may actually get to spend time with loved ones over the holidays this year…and not just over Zoom!
Secondly, we had a very successful ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 21, celebrating the dedication of the County’s Tres Rios Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Biogas Treatment and Delivery System. This facility came about in partnership with Southwest Gas, and is the first of its kind in Arizona to connect with the Southwest Gas fuel delivery grid. It’s been a long time coming, and will help the County achieve its sustainability goals.

KUDOS
They say that people naturally tend to complain more than they compliment on a job well done. Why? Simply because they're too busy. If it doesn't solve some their problems it's unconsciously seen as a waste of time. In this case, a customer in the Thornydale and Magee area took the time to pass along a compliment.

Local artist leaves his mark at Tres Rios
Local artist Ignacio Garcia received a phone call recently asking if he would be interested in painting a mural depicting clean energy on the wall of an equipment building at Tres Rios. Ignacio thought this idea was worth exploring, so he met with Bobby DeAngelo, the Project Manager for RWRD’s new Renewable Gas Center biogas cleaning facility at the Tres Rios WRF. Once he learned what the project was all about, his interest was piqued.
