 Bell ringing at Historic Courthouse commemorates 10-year anniversary of Jan. 8 shooting
A bell rang at the Historic Courthouse this morning for the six lives lost and 13 wounded 10 years ago in a deadly shooting targeting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The brief ceremony was closed to the public due to the ongoing pandemic, but was live-streamed on social media.
Pima County to expand COVID-19 vaccination sites
The rate of COVID-19 vaccines is ready to rise in Pima County.
The County, according to data tracked daily by the Arizona Department of Health Services, already has been leading the state in vaccination rate. But, says Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen, with the accelerated rate of transmission of COVID-19, “It’s critical that we accelerate our immunization process.”

Help us give Pima County a shot in the arm
You can help make sure Pima County doesn’t miss its shot.
As the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine accelerates, volunteers are needed to help staff the effort to get shots into our citizens’ arms and protect our community against the virus.
With the County having plans to quickly expand from two to six regional vaccine centers, medical personnel who are interested in volunteering can register now.

Program provides safety net for families, pets
An outreach program offered through Pima Animal Care Center provided a happy ending to a very tough year for one Pima County family.
PACC's Safety Net Program allows community members to foster owned animals whose families are experiencing a temporary inability to provide care for them.

Health and Human Services, TMC launch federally supported infusion center to treat COVID-19 patients
Health Department Director Dr. Theresa Cullen was part of a Jan. 7 press conference announcing a new infusion center for COVID patients that will help reduce disease severity and help prevent deaths.
The center is the second federally supported infusion center in the country to treat certain COVID-19 patients in order to prevent hospitalization and the severity of illness.

Last call for your used cooking grease
Don’t forget, the 16th Annual Grease Collection and Recycling Event is on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department will be collecting your fat, oil, and grease, which later will be converted into biodiesel fuel. Saving that used cooking grease helps keep it out of the sewer system where it can build up and cause nasty overflows.
You can also recycle your grease year-round at Wastewater’s Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility/Jacobs, located at 2947 W. Calle Agua Nueva. For more information on the year-round drop-off, call 405-0438.
