Pima County still reviewing when to open public pools; will not open May 13

PIMA COUNTY, May 12, 2020 - Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation will not yet open pools and splash pads, despite the lifting of restrictions announced today by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. The County is evaluating the governor's new Executive Order and the associated published guidance to determine the best strategy for Pima County to comply with the guidelines and protect public health.

An announcement of when County pools will open will be released before the normal opening on Memorial Day Weekend. All aquatic summer 2020 programs have been temporarily postponed or suspended.

The County will likely be adopting guidelines vetted by the Resorts, Pools and Spas Task Force of the Expediting Government Regulation subcommittee that is part of the overall Pima County Back to Business Steering Committee.

Best practices guidelines for other public pools at resorts and hotels, apartment complexes, recreation centers and the like will be released soon. Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry included the draft guidelines in this memorandum to the Board of Supervisors last week.
