PIMA COUNTY, Jan. 22, 2020 - Pima County Development Services has moved into the department’s new permanent home on the ground floor of the Public Works Building.

Located at 201 N. Stone Avenue, Development Services new offices are, in fact, the remodeled and modernized old digs the department has called home since 1991.

In the nearly 30 years since moving into to the current space the development industry has undergone many changes, shifting from an industry where all materials were submitted on paper to one where the majority of work is done digitally. Today, most customers submit plans electronically through the Development Services website, no longer needing to submit physical plans over the counter and reviews happen simultaneously.

New software and GIS technology has streamlined the department’s plan review process allowing staff to complete reviews more quickly. In addition, with most records and documents stored electronically, the public now has remote access to Development Services and plans no longer needs to be stored in space consuming file cabinets. 

The new space allows Development Services to consolidate the entire department including Planning to one floor.  The lobby area has been right sized to accommodate a smaller number of walk in clientele.  

“The modern open floor plan allows staff to collaborate on reviews and projects.  The space is free of paper clutter and files and allows more flexible work space.   Huddle rooms and conference rooms are provided throughout the floor for gatherings and meetings since private offices are no longer provided” said Carla Blackwell, Development Services Director.

Another benefit to the consolidation and open floor plan “fewer copiers and computers are needed,” Blackwell said, adding we equipped all staff with laptops to take to meetings and serve the customers at the counters. 

Another change is coming to the Development Services Office as well. Beginning Jan. 31, the office will no longer process U.S. passport applications. Those seeking new or renewed passports can apply and file documents with the Clerk of the Superior Court at 240 N. Stone Ave., inside the County Public Service Center.
