Arizona Border Counties Coalition

had successful 2019

PIMA COUNTY – The Arizona Border Counties Coalition has released its summary of its meetings, activities and correspondence in 2019 seeking to raise awareness of the special circumstances of border counties when it comes to trade, economic development and the effects on border counties by federal immigration and drug enforcement.

All four Arizona border counties participate in the Coalition – Cochise, Santa Cruz, Pima and Yuma.

Among the highlights of the summary are meetings to discuss border issues with:

  • Mark Napier, Pima County Sheriff Mark D. Napier,
  • Juan Ciscomani, Senior Advisor for Regional & International Affairs, Office of Governor Ducey,
  • Roy Villareal Tucson Sector Border Patrol Chief, and
  • Sean Carroll, Executive Director, Kino Border Initiative/Iniciativa Kino para la Frontera

The Coalition also sent letters to the Arizona congressional delegation in support of the United States, Mexico, Canada Trade Agreement, to Gov. Ducey about reform of the application of Operation Stonegarden grants, and to project manager of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s plan to build inspection facilities at border crossings.

“The Arizona Border Counties Coalition represents the more then 1.5 million people who live adjacent to Mexico and who profit from the proximity to and special relationship with our state’s largest trading partner, but who also have to deal with the occasional adverse effects of federal border immigration and drug enforcement. The Coalition made great progress this year in making our state and national leaders aware of the unique circumstances of the border counties and I’m very proud to represent Pima County on the board,” said Pima County District 3 Supervisor Sharon Bronson.

The Coalition usually meets monthly with meeting locations rotating between the member counties.
