 Resident’s Guide to Mesa Now on Demand
The Resident’s Guide to Mesa is a series of free classes designed to provide helpful information for residents looking to improve their neighborhoods. In addition to in-person classes, we have introduced special topic webinars to enhance accessibility: you can watch them live or watch the recording.
We now introduce a collection of on-demand classes. This curated selection includes mini-classes about services and programs such as Neighborhood Registration and Tool Lending, and shortened versions of our most popular webinars that you can view anytime and anywhere.

Volunteer at the 2025 Mesa-East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Festival
2025 Mesa-East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration is on Monday, January 20, in Downtown Mesa. This annual event brings thousands of individuals together and offers multiple opportunities to volunteer. We are looking for individuals or groups to help with check-in, staging for the parade, parade route assistance and de-staging. This year, we are also looking for support with the festival. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2025-2026 academic year is now available. Adults returning to school, high school seniors preparing for graduation and current college students should complete the FAFSA to access financial aid opportunities. Since many types of aid are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, it’s crucial to apply as early as possible to maximize your chances of receiving federal, state, and institutional assistance. Saving Water – A Simple New Year’s Resolution to Keep.
Is getting better organized or shedding a few pounds on your list of resolutions for 2025? How about an easy resolution that will benefit the environment, help you live a more sustainable lifestyle and provide you with dollar savings, too? From simple behavior changes like replacing fixtures that save H2O without even thinking about it, here are some ideas to get you started:
- Turn off the water while brushing teeth, shaving or washing dishes.
- Trade your showerhead, faucet or toilet for a WaterSense-labeled model.
- Check your toilets for silent leaks with a few drops of food coloring in the tank.
- Select low-water-use plants that are adapted to our desert climate.
- Do a thorough check of your irrigation system to find and fix leaks.

2025 Mesa-East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
Monday, January 20, 2025 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Downtown Mesa
Under the theme "Building Bridges: Cultivating our Community" this event will honor Dr. King’s legacy by highlighting the power of unity, inclusion, and community growth. A memorable parade to celebrate our communities and a fun festival with local vendors.
The parade begins at M.L.K. Jr. Way and N Center Street (Mesa Convention Center) and runs down N Center St and turns on E 1st St, to end at the festival location, on The Plaza at Mesa City Center (56 E Main St, Mesa, AZ, 85201.)

Regional Unity Walk
Saturday, January 25, 2025 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tempe Beach Park (620 N Mill Ave, Tempe AZ 85281)
Join Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Guadalupe, and host city Tempe for a celebration of cultural diversity and community. The festival starts at 4:30 p.m. with refreshments and entertainment and the candlelight walk begins at 6:00 p.m. Mesa walkers are encouraged to wear turquoise or teal-colored shirts. Free t-shirts will be available on a first-come basis.

Kick Off the New Year with Safety!
Make sure your family knows how to detect and respond to a gas leak. If you a smell rotten egg odor, see any unusual changes to vegetation, or hear an unusual blowing or hissing sound from a natural gas pipeline, leave immediately and call 911 and our gas emergency hotline at 480-644-4277 to report it. Knowing how to recognize and respond to a gas leak is crucial in keeping everyone safe.
