High heat can be harmful to your body. Be safe during these summer days.
- If possible, stay indoors and in an air-conditioned place.
- Drink more fluids, regardless of your activity level. Don't wait until you are thirsty.
- Never leave anyone (children, pets, or vulnerable people) in a closed, parked vehicle.
- Monitor media for Heat Warnings and check on your most vulnerable neighbors
If you must be out in the heat, limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours and rest often in shady areas. Visit Fire and Life Safety Education for more tips and helpful information.

The 18th Annual Mesa Hydration Donation Campaign, from May 6 through September 27, 2024, provides supplies of water to people in need. The City of Mesa works with nonprofit agencies and businesses to collect the bottles of water which are distributed through United Food Bank to numerous agencies in the valley. You can contribute by donating money or donating water bottles.

Pet Summer Safety
Leave your animals at home. Never leave your pet in a car during the summer. Temperatures inside a car increase by 20 degrees in 10 minutes, even with cracked windows. Call 911 if you see an animal locked in a vehicle.
Better inside. Your pet needs constant access to water and shade. Shady spots offer little protection from the heat and move with the sun. It's better to keep them inside an air-conditioned space if you can.
Find a summer walk schedule. If it's too hot to stand barefoot for five seconds on the path, it's too hot to walk your dog. Paws burn easily on hot surfaces. Don't risk it; walk them later!

Natural Gas Meter Safety Tips
Ensure the safety of your family by following these simple guidelines when it comes to your natural gas meter:
- Keep the area in front of and around your meter clear at all times. This will allow our employees to access the meter whenever necessary.
- Avoid stacking anything on your gas meter.
- Protect your meter against vehicular damage. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or bushes within three feet of your meter. As plants grow, their roots can damage piping or the gas meter.

Let's make the most of the summer season by enjoying all the fun activities and events while prioritizing safety for our families, pets, and ourselves. Let's also remember to observe firework regulations during the 4th of July celebrations. It's important to keep the Monsoon Hotlines handy, check on our vulnerable neighbors, and share this newsletter with our neighbors, family, and friends in Mesa.
