The incentive is $2/square foot for removing at least 2,500 square feet of water-thirsty non-functional grass and converting it into a desert-friendly Xeriscape, with a maximum of $50,000 per property, per year. Mesa has also increased the city-funded landscape irrigation equipment incentives. Properties can apply for up to $20,000 per year per property. All incentives are for future projects only. June is Home Safety Month
This month, ensure your family knows how to recognize and respond to a natural gas leak. Natural gas is colorless and odorless, so an odor like rotten eggs is added to help us detect it. Gas leaks can also be identified in the following ways:
- Unusual blowing or hissing sound coming from a pipeline, meter or appliance
- Unusual changes to soil, dead or dying plants, blowing dirt, or standing water bubbling
If you suspect a gas leak or emergency, leave the area immediately and go to a safe location, and call 911 and our emergency gas hotline at 480-644-4277 to report it.

High heat can be harmful to your body. Be safe during these summer days.
- If possible, stay indoors and in an air-conditioned place.
- Drink more fluids, regardless of your activity level. Don't wait until you are thirsty.
- Never leave anyone (children, pets, or vulnerable people) in a closed, parked vehicle.
- Monitor media for Heat Warnings and check on your most vulnerable neighbors
If you must be out in the heat, limit your outdoor activity to morning and evening hours and rest often in shady areas. Visit Fire and Life Safety Education for more tips and helpful information.

Visit mesaaz.gov/summerhelp to find Heat Relief Centers and Hydration Stations in Mesa, or call 2-1-1 for more heat relief services, including free transportation to a heat relief center. More Heat Relief locations in Maricopa are available on the Heat Relief Network webpage.

Pet Summer Safety
Leave your animals at home. Never leave your pet in a car during the summer. Temperatures inside a car increase by 20 degrees in 10 minutes, even with cracked windows. Call 911 if you see an animal locked in a vehicle.
Better inside. Your pet needs constant access to water and shade. Shady spots offer little protection from the heat and move with the sun. It's better to keep them inside an air-conditioned space if you can.
Find a summer walk schedule. If it's too hot to stand barefoot for five seconds on the path, it's too hot to walk your dog. Paws burn easily on hot surfaces. Don't risk it; walk them later!
|
Summer is finally here and Mesa has many options for you and your family to have fun. From pools to museums, to wonderful community events to celebrate Juneteenth, make sure you check the City’s calendar of events.
