News, Events, & Information from Maricopa County Human Resources

Human Resources has implemented some improvements to Maricopa County's Annual Performance Evaluations. These changes will standardize the process and provide a more meaningful approach to your performance reviews.
Improvements Include:
A New Performance Review Timeline: The review period will now cover work performed between April 1 and March 31. This will help departments that utilize Workday for evaluations to be on a consistent schedule, wherein all employees can be evaluated for work performed during the same timeframe.
A New Rating System: Data has shown that many feel the three-tier system is too rigid and not fully representative of success. A newly implemented four-tier scale will allow for a more accurate review of your work and accomplishments:
The New 4-Tier Scale:
4: Exceptional 3: Highly Successful 2: Successful 1: Needs Improvement
A New Workday Feature: A Key Accomplishments task has been added to Workday. This new task, while optional, will give you the opportunity to record key contributions you've made to your team during the performance cycle. This is separate from the Performance Review, but managers can refer to the information in the Key Accomplishments section when completing their evaluations.
New Task Routing: Previously, some components of performance reviews have been completed outside of Workday. Starting this year, higher-level reviews will be conducted in Workday. Once the initial review is completed, you will have the option to either acknowledge the review or request a higher-level review. If you select a higher-level review, you will be directed to complete a questionnaire in Workday detailing your areas of concern. The questionnaire will be shared with your Appointing Authority, who will either uphold the rating or make changes as necessary.
A New Check-In Process: Based on employee feedback, formal Workday check-ins have been reduced from three times a year to twice a year for departments that participate. |
This year's Annual Performance Evaluations will be due by March 31, 2025. More information will be released in the coming weeks to offer clarity on this new process. Please speak with your manager if you have any questions regarding your Performance Evaluation.

It's Tax Time Again – Are You Prepared?
2024 W-2s are now available for current employees in Workday. If you haven't gone paperless yet, your W-2 has been mailed. ADP is the vendor you will receive it from.
Each year, we encourage employees to go paperless as it saves the County money and reduces the risk of W-2s getting lost in the mail. Consider this option for next year. The guide below (click the orange button) will show you how to print your W-2s directly from Workday, and how to go paperless.
Please reach out to your department payroll liaison if you have any questions.

...and Don't Forget About Your 1095-C Form
Another document you may need to access is your 2024 Form 1095-C. This form is for those who are enrolled in a healthcare benefit through Maricopa County.
You have two options to view and print an electronic copy of your ACA 1095-C Form:
- The Workday home page will display an announcement with a link to your ACA 1095-C Form.
- Follow these instructions.
Important Note: Though the 1095-C form is not required to be submitted with your tax return, it’s still a part of your records. Some tax preparers may ask for this form, so you may want to have it on hand.
If you have any questions about your W-2 form, please contact Payroll at 602-506-3519 or via email at hrpayrec@maricopa.gov. For assistance on your 1095-C form, please contact Benefits at 602-506-1010 or via email at benefits@maricopa.gov.

Qualifying Life Events
The new Benefits Plan Year went into effect January 1, 2025. The selections made during Open Enrollment last fall are now in place and cannot be changed unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).
Qualifying Life Events include:
- Birth of a Child
- Marriage
- Gain or Loss of Other Coverage
- Divorce
Reporting Qualifying Life Events is a Two-Step Process:
- Submit or upload sufficient documentation of the new dependent or event.
- If adding a new dependent (i.e., spouse or child), add the dependent’s profile in Workday by following these steps.
- If needing to send proof of the QLE without adding a new dependent, email the documentation to Benefits at benefits@maricopa.gov.
- Upon approval of the documentation, return to Workday to make the desired change via your benefit event (i.e., enroll new dependent, waive, or change coverage).
If you experience a QLE, notify Benefits at benefits@maricopa.gov within 30 days of the event date, or you'll have to wait until the next Open Enrollment period to make changes to your benefits.
