The Presidential Preference Election is coming up on March 19. This election enables registered Republicans and Democrats to choose their preferred presidential candidate for the General Election in November.
Maricopa County employees are pivotal in ensuring our elections run smoothly and with integrity. I am deeply grateful for the leadership and contributions of these everyday heroes working behind the scenes to count every last vote.
This year, we hope to recruit at least 200 County employees to support the Presidential Preference Election. I would like to personally invite you to support elections, with approval from your supervisor, on March 18 and March 19*. See more details on specific dates below.
By taking advantage of this opportunity, you too can be an everyday hero who protects American democracy and elevates the voices of voters throughout Maricopa County.
Why take Civic Duty Leave?
First off, you get to trade in a couple of regular days at the office for civic engagement and making a real difference in a new way right here in Maricopa County.
Besides earning Civic Duty Leave for your regular work hours, you will also take home a little extra cash from election pay. On top of your regular wages, you will earn an additional $14.35-$17.00 an hour in election pay on March 18 and March 19*, depending on your assignment.
*You may be eligible for additional Civic Duty Leave outside of March 18-19 if:
- Your assignment requires training that interferes with your normal work hours
- You worked at MCTEC receiving County ballots on Election Night and cannot go to work on Wednesday, March 20
- You are an IT professional assisting with voting location technology set-up and support (authorized for additional Civic Duty Leave on March 15-19)
Remember, Civic Duty Leave replaces your regular work hours at your regular rate of pay, so you are whole. You will also earn an additional $14.35-$17.00 an hour in election pay for all hours you spend supporting Elections.
If you have any questions about how Civic Duty Leave works, please refer to this guide or reach out to Elections-Jobs@maricopa.gov.

This position requires more physical exertion than other tasks and the ability to comfortably lift 40 pounds.
-
Receiving site supervisors ($14.35/hour): This work involves strict attention to detail and administrative acuity. Workers will verify and check in sensitive elections items and equipment. They will be located outdoors at a receiving site and will turn over this property to a designated Elections driver. This work starts at 6pm on Election Day and may go as late as midnight.
Please note that all positions require volunteers to be registered voters in Arizona, and all volunteers will work in teams of various political affiliations.
While Elections Human Resources will primarily be coordinating job assignments based on election needs, they will speak to every volunteer to understand their preferences and identify the right position.
