Colleagues,
One of the most important jobs I have is ensuring a safe, healthy work environment for staff and visitors on county property. One way we ensure a safe workplace is through our Security Services team. You might recognize them as the tan shirts at board meetings, security desks, or badging stations. But they are also first responders in an emergency, as well as a resource for employees who may have concerns about their personal safety. With the approval of the Board of Supervisors, we are going to be expanding Security Services, not only adding more officers but also making more of them full-time county employees instead of contract workers. This will limit turnover and provide more continuity.
Additionally, some employees have expressed concerns about walking to and from their cars after hours, particularly near the Jackson Street Garage. In response, we are adding four security specialists and an additional patrol vehicle to the Jackson Street Corridor.
Employees should also know that they can request a security escort at any time by calling the 24/7/365 Security Services Dispatch desk at 602-506-3700. It’s a good number to have in your cell phone contacts.
These new investments in Security Services are just one part of our continued investment in all of you, making sure you have a safe, supportive environment to do your best work.
I’ll share more updates as I have them.
Take care,
Jen Pokorski
