Improved Turnaround Time for Replacement Vehicles
|
|
Implementing streamlined processes and improved collaboration with contract vendors has led to a remarkable increase in the average number of replacement vehicles onboarded annually. We are pleased to report that our annual average has surged from 165 vehicles to 419 vehicles, demonstrating a nearly 250% increase. |
This achievement is a testament to our Equipment Services team's understanding of the County's mission and dedication to their customer. We have partnered with the Innovation Studio team, and look forward to continuing this trend into FY24.

Fuel Consumption and Analysis
Keeping up with fuel costs was a challenge in FY23, and we expect more of the same in FY24. In just the past week, gas prices have shot up $.25 per gallon.
The Equipment Services Department (EQS) supports over 3,000 vehicles with fuel. In FY23, we dispensed 1.9 million gallons at a cost of just over $7 million. The average cost of unleaded was $3.75 per gallon, while diesel fuel averaged $3.95 per gallon. In comparison, we purchased 30K more gallons and spent $600K more than we did in FY22. Interestingly, our County vehicles covered over 23 million miles in FY23, approximately 800K more than in FY22.

Strategic Focus on Preventative Maintenance
Did you know Equipment Services has five satellite maintenance facilities? They are located throughout the County in Buckeye, Avondale, Surprise, Mesa, and downtown Phoenix at the bottom of the 401 parking garage. They provide great opportunities to have your vehicles serviced for preventative maintenance (PM). In FY23, EQS logged 5970 PMs, a slight downtick from FY22.
To ensure a comprehensive and effective preventive maintenance program, we encourage you to adopt fleet management best practices, which include:
Scheduled Maintenance Ensure your Fleet Liaisons adhere to the monthly PM report sent out by EQS. Call and set up appointments with our Service Writers at 602-506-2886. They can ensure we schedule your vehicle at the nearest location with the least downtime.
|
Driver Training Educating vehicle operators about early signs of wear and tear and how to report and address issues promptly to prevent further damage.
|
Operator Care and Inspections Emphasizing the importance of vehicle operators' pre- and post-trip inspections. These inspections should be documented and tracked to ensure proactive identification of issues and early intervention to prevent more extensive damage.
