Traffic Impacts Due to New Road Closures

Starting tonight, new closures on Jefferson Street will make getting around downtown even more difficult.  If you typically leave work, taking Jefferson St. eastbound, your normal route will be blocked. 

Eastbound traffic will have to turn right at 1^st Ave. because Jefferson St. will be closed between 1^st Ave. and Central Ave.  If you choose to take the detour from Jefferson St. to Madison St., keep in mind that sporting events (Suns and Diamondbacks) could lead to significant back-ups on certain nights.  Using that detour, you can get back onto Jefferson St. at 1^st St.  Heading south to Lincoln St. is another option.

Here’s what you can expect through late May/early June:

• Jefferson St. will be reduced to one lane starting at 3^rd Ave.
• Eastbound access on Jefferson St. will end at 1^st.Ave.
• Drivers heading south on 1^st will still be able to turn on Jefferson St. heading east, but will not be able to continue south on 1^st Ave.
• Access to Jefferson St. from Central Ave. will be closed.

There will still be traffic control on Washington St. but it will not be as significant as it right now.
