Dear oneMCSO,

It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we inform you that on Saturday, December 11, 2021, MCSO Officer Herminia Datingaling B1251, assigned to the Towers Jail Division, Shift 3, passed away.

About Herminia

Denise

A 14-year veteran with MCSO, Herminia began her career on October 9, 2007.  Upon graduation from MCSO Academy Class #870, Herminia was assigned to the Estrella Jail Division.  On December 22, 2014, Herminia was transferred to the Inmate Medical Services Division, Mental Health and Medical Infirmary Unit for the next seven years. On August 9, 2021, Herminia was transferred to the Towers Jail Division.

Of note, while assigned to the Inmate Medical Services Division, Herminia carried out her custody assignment with professionalism, consistency, understanding, empathy, and compassion; traits that are especially required when providing care and custody to an inmate/patient population that experiences physical or mental health challenges.  This assignment requires a “special” type of officer and Herminia IS that “special” officer and individual.

Officers that have worked with Herminia over the past 14 years have stated that Herminia has “created a family atmosphere” at each of her assignments. Her squad partners have repeatedly stated that Herminia was lovingly referred to as the squad’s “Mother Hen,” providing a continuous supply of coffee, snacks, and homemade Filipino food for the shift officers to enjoy at work. Herminia also provided her partners with “motherly advice and care” for their personal wellbeing. Herminia genuinely and sincerely cared for those she worked with and worked for.

These special traits directly reflect the exceptionally special officer and woman Herminia is. For those fortunate and blessed to have worked with Herminia, and those who did not have the opportunity, we join together to mourn the passing of Officer Herminia Datingaling.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office extends our sincerest condolences and sympathies to the family, friends, and coworkers of Officer Datingaling.
