Rescue and Restore Programs

The pandemic has left more Maricopa County families vulnerable this holiday season, but county employees are stepping up to help.

Using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds, Maricopa County is establishing or expanding programs and support services to help individuals, families, and entire communities.  Some programs administered by your colleagues in other departments may be able to assist the people you serve, so it's worth looking to see if there's overlap!

We have two websites to get you started.  Maricopa.gov/Rescue lists programs funded through ARPA. This direct financial assistance includes emergency rental assistance, free legal services to renters facing eviction, and small business stability grants.  It also includes partnerships with community nonprofits who are addressing issues such as feeding the hungry (see featured video below) and safely housing and supporting domestic violence survivors.  We will continue to add to this page as more services come online.

To see a breakdown of ARPA spending and what funds are left to be disbursed, check out our dashboard at Maricopa.gov/RescueFunds.

Funding the Food Need

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity has gotten worse for families across the County during the pandemic. In response, the Board of Supervisors has allotted $3,000,000 in American Rescue Plan Act Funds to the Arizona Food Bank Network.  The Network will then distribute that money to smaller food banks in the form of grants.

Hanging lights with a ladder

Falling from a ladder while hanging decorations and stepping on broken ornaments may be funny in holiday movies but in real life, these mishaps can result in visits to the emergency room or calls to fire departments.

Remember these tips during your holiday decorating and any other time you use a ladder.

  • Inspect the ladder and set it up on a level flat surface with nothing else around - like a door that can open into it
  • Stay on the second rung from the top - never the top rung
  • Don’t lean outside of the frame
  • Always maintain three points of contact
  • Face the ladder while climbing up or down
