20th Anniversary of 9/11
Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September morning almost 20 years ago? It was a day that changed our country, and the world, forever. Two iconic towers fell, the Pentagon sustained major damage, and nearly 3,000 people were killed.
September 11 is now officially recognized as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. It provides an opportunity to remember and honor those who died, the first responders who risked their own lives to save others, and the men and women who defend our nation at home and abroad. To those among our staff who served or sacrificed, thank you.
Patriot Day also aims to transform the anniversary of 9/11 from a day of tragedy into a day of doing good. It is estimated over 30 million Americans participate in some form of charitable service on this day. If you would like to join in, you can find volunteer opportunities here. Every small act of service is a giant act of patriotism.

Get Ready for the Combined Charitable Campaign!
The Combined Charitable Campaign (CCC) is September 13-27. This year's campaign celebrates 20 years of helping people in our community who are struggling. And, as we know, there are more people in that category this year because of the continued impact of COVID-19.
This year’s campaign includes 69 vetted charitable agencies that serve an area prioritized by our County government: youth, reentry from jail to community, affordable housing, Veterans, and all those agencies that have an existing relationship with a County department.

Sweet Senior Pets
Sadly, many pets don’t live out their golden years in a loving home, but end up in shelters at the end of their lives. A partnership between the Coyotes and Animal Care & Control wants that to change. "Desert Dogs" is a series of videos that spotlights long time pets in the shelter and encourages their adoptions.
You can adopt or shelter a pet at Animal Care & Control's Clear the Shelters event. From now through September 19 you can adopt your new pet for only $25.00. Your pet will be licensed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.

CAPTION CONTEST
|
Congratulations, Lara Hoover!
A lot of you thought Diesel was thinking, "If I can't see you, you can't see me." Lara Hoover from the Office of the Public Advocate thought Diesel wanted to hide because he's in the Feline Protection Program. Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption. We see you!
Now for this issue's photo...
In keeping with the theme "hiding in plain sight," Larry Gast from Risk Management submitted this photo of Bella. Did she get this tip from watching E.T.?
Send your caption our way using the link above, or email us your favorite pet pic and we may use it in a future issue of Currents.
