February 2015
The Beginning of 2015 has been filled with new opportunity, outstanding service, and many memorable moments. Most know I am not prone to sentimentalism. However, since Valentine’s Day is a few days away, I want to “show the love” to some of the wonderful people, organizations, and programs that make Maricopa County so great.
First, I wouldn’t be able to serve without my incredible wife Nichole who keeps so many of the most important things running behind the scenes.
A local non-profit, The Power of One Good Deed (POGD) held a cocktail event and auction called “SNIFF” to raise money for Maricopa County Animal Care and Control’s Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP.) The event raised $50,000. Though I don’t own any animals myself, this is an example of how passion and community partnerships save tax dollars. And I sure do love that! County Attorney Bill Montgomery introduced Tori, the new addition to the K9 Victim Support Program (VSP). Thanks to a partnership with PetSmart, the dogs are able to assist victims through the court process.

Why we nominated him: Tony Sturgeon is our first employee highlight. We appreciate him because in the last month he has bailed us out on at least five different occasions with his technology wizardry. Specifically, there have been several “printer incidents” that almost had the office staff involved in an Office Space scene.
Why he loves MC: “My favorite part of working for Maricopa County has been the opportunities for growth and expansion of my technical knowledge. I’ve been put through training, received help for a certification, and had opportunities to advance. It is a continuous learning process, being exposed to new technologies and I very much enjoy the challenge.”
